Blackboard on Apple iPad

The user experience of Blackboard on an Apple iPad can vary due to device version, operating system version and browser version. Student and Faculty users with iPads may want to consider the Blackboard app which is available through the Apple app store. Instructors can also use Blackboard Grader which provides some additional course functionality.

If accessing Blackboard through the Safari browser, there may be issues experienced that are not seen on the desktop version of Safari.

Safari on iPad Menu Issue

A common problem that users have experienced when using Blackboard through the Safari browser on an Apple iPad is that the navigation menu on the left side of the screen collapses as they visit each page.

This is a known compatibility issue for Blackboard on iPad devices. As a workaround, users can touch the blue bar seen on the far left of the screen which will cause the familiar menu to emerge from the left edge.

Users of some iPad devices have reported that the blue bar disappears when they touch it without the menu opening. If you experience this behavior, touch the home icon to reload the course home page and attempt to touch the blue bar again.

While there is currently no permanent fix for the Blackboard menu issue seen through Safari on iPads, we hope this workaround will help you in using Blackboard on those devices.
