Creating Narrated PowerPoints (Mary Ball)

Narrated PowerPoints are an easy-to-create tool that can be used as a lecture component for your online, hybrid or web-enhanced course. Compared to a regular PowerPoint, narrated PowerPoints are more engaging by offering learners graphics and narration. It also serves as a tool for flipping the classroom and meets different learning styles.

Free & Cool Web-Based Tools (Sharyn Leigh & Alex Garrison)

In this fast-paced session, IDS will show you “abuncha cool and free!” websites to use for creating media, manipulating images, virtual team collaboration and digital distribution of content for your classes! Bring your smartphone or connected devices. Come caffeinated!

Maker Ed (David Burget & Jamie Bridgham) *new this year!

This workshop — a collaboration between IDS and the FabLab — will provide information on what the FabLab is and how instructors can implement concepts and creations into their classrooms. We’ll provide a brief overview of current trends and tools. We’ll also go over the basics of how 3D printing and laser cutting works, discuss other maker options. Samples will be available on some of the current interdisciplinary projects.

Moving Image Media (Charlie Cogar)

Video, “Moving Image Media,” is a dynamic and engaging learning tool. Syllabus Center Overview (Curtis Bryant)

Easily create, share and update syllabi with Syllabus Center. Syllabus Center, developed and supported by IDS, automatically gives syllabi the latest College policies, stores past syllabi, copies syllabi from one section to another, and allows for easy student access.

Using Ensemble Video (Chuck Davis)

IDS will demonstrate all the ways you can use this streaming-media service to enhance your courses.  Upload videos, audio files and presentations to your Ensemble library on the web.  Easily link to streaming content or embed a player or playlist within your Blackboard course or on other webpages.  Create drop box assignments that allow students to submit audio or video to your Ensemble library.  Embed a playlist of student submissions in Blackboard to allow peer-review.  Live stream from a webcam or iPad and record directly to your Ensemble library.

How to register for training sessions

Staff/Faculty may use the term+course number to register, or they may use just the synonym.

  • Log in to MyWay
  • Place cursor over Home in the upper left corner, then choose Student
  • Click on the My Services tab on the left side of the page
  • Click My Services for Students
  • Click Registration
  • Click on Express Registration
  • On the Educational Goals screen, just click SUBMIT
  • On the “Express Registration” screen, enter the SYNONYM # for each course you want to take, then click SUBMIT
  • On the “Register and Drop Sections” screen, click the arrow next to the empty box under Actions, and then choose RG-Register for each class that you want to register for. Click SUBMIT, and you will see the courses you are registered for in the Registration Results box at the bottom of the page.

To enroll by phone, call ext. 8518 from campus or 531-622-5231 or 1-800-228-9553 from off campus. Please cancel if you are not able to attend sessions you have registered for.
